Letter from the Editor: Fall 2025

Hello Friends,

Have you ever heard the phrase, “I’m living my best life”? Maybe it was said by someone who’s retired, traveling, living at the beach, or whose life responsibilities have greatly diminished. It could also be someone with a new home, job, spouse, or empty nesters. But, what do all of these “best lives” have in common?

Favorable circumstances. When we build our lives on feelings and favorable conditions, we can be rest assured that what we deem best in the moment can be upended in the blink of an eye.

So, can a Christian ever say, “I’m living my best life?” Yes. According to Dr. David Jeremiah: “Your best life possible is one that adheres to Scripture.” I love that! Adhering to Scripture means we live life aligned with the Word of God (all of it). It’s attached to us at all times. Like the Band-Aids commercial jingle says: I am stuck on Band-Aids brand ‘cause Band-Aids stuck on me. (IYKYK, and those who know just sang along.)

As revealed throughout the Scriptures, God’s immutable. He never changes. He is faithful in all circumstances. His Word is absolute truth, come what may. Christians can depend on Him, trust Him,
and rest in Him. That’s real security, real peace, real joy.

In Christ, we are living our best life—whatever our age, our season, or situation. Remember Paul? …for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. [Because] I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:11-13 ESV). You may have noticed that when one of the most quoted verses (Phillipians 4:13) is read in context, it’s often egregiously misused. It doesn’t mean that through Christ we can do anything our heart desires. Paul is speaking directly about how it’s possible to be content in any circumstance through Christ who gives us strength. Paul proclaimed that wherever he was, whatever his lot, he was content in his identity and security in Christ Jesus, his risen Lord and Savior. Can we say the same?

Living our best life means no meaningful life decision is made without first consulting what we know to be true according to God’s Word. Living our best life means we live each day with a grateful heart, even when our hearts ache. Living our best life means our hope is built on nothing less than Christ alone.

Why? Because we know when our ‘best’ life ends with our final breath on Earth, our perfect life begins with our next breath in Heaven. And it will be even more wonderful than we can even imagine.

Keepin’ it Real,

Melanie
